Meet the Team
Meet the women involved in Derby Women's Centre:
Yasmin - Chief Executive
"I joined DWC in September 2008 and have enjoyed every minute of it. The journey has not been without its challenges and has occasionally during some of the most testing times felt as though there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Some of my previous roles have included Deputy Director of NSREC (Stoke), Manager of NCVS (Nottingham), Manager of Black Women's Resource Centre (Sheffield) and Connexions (Derbyshire). I have served on many Management Boards and until recently was on the Board of Community Action. My job would be much more difficult without the valuable contribution of the staff, volunteers and service users."
Elaine R - Services Coordinator
"I have worked as the Services Coordinator at Derby Women's Centre for 3 years. I came from a legal profession background into the charity world which at first was a shell shock to the system. However, I have now developed my role into offering a service which is both caring and professional at all times. It has been a privilege to work at Derby Women's Centre and to meet the service users. I communicate with them by listening, assessing their needs and responding appropriately. I can honestly say that it would be hard to find nicer service users in any other organisation."
Zulikha - Key Skills Development Worker
"I’m Zulikha and I was previously working as DWC’s receptionist until April 2011. I have since been offered the role of Key Skills Development Worker, through which I will be supporting service users to get back into work, gain skills to increase their job prospects or increase their confidence with the variety of workshops that I will be delivering. These will focus on CV writing, job search and interview skills and much more. I studied Occupational Therapy at university and I hope I can put the transferrable skills that I gained into action to help our service users to achieve their full potential."
Mary - Cleaner
"As DWC's resident cleaner, it's my responsibility to make sure that the Centre is a welcoming environment for our service users. I've been working here for almost 4 years now."
Volunteers
Sue - Office Adminstration Assistant
"I joined Derby Women’s Centre as a volunteer in September 2006, having previously worked in adult education as an ESOL tutor. Volunteer office administrative assistants like myself form part of the background support team, which enables the more direct ‘service functions’ to take place. My voluntary work has proved very rewarding."
Asma -Trainee HR Officer/ PA Assistant
"I joined DWC in January 2011 and am responsible for implementing policies and procedures and making sure that they are followed correctly. I am also responsible for staff and volunteer information. I graduated from Nottingham University with a Law degree and previously have undertaken retail work
Rehana - Debt & Benefit Support Worker
"I am Rehana Kauser- the Debt and Benefit support worker at DWC. I first started supporting service users as a volunteer but we were fortunate enough to secure some funding and I have now been working at DWC for the past year helping women to resolve their debt issues, offering support, and identifying and accessing a range of benefits."
Sally - Communications & Fundraising Officer
"I'm in charge of the marketing and media side of things so it's my job to promote the Derby Women's Centre and spread the word about what we do. This is my first foray into the voluntary sector and it's very rewarding to see how we help our service users to feel better about themselves."
