Derby Women's Centre

Meet the Team

Meet the Derby Women's Centre team:

Yasmin - Chief Executive

"I joined DWC in September 2008 and have enjoyed every minute of it, though the journey has not been without its challenges. Some of my previous roles have included Deputy Director of NSREC (Stoke), Manager of NCVS (Nottingham), Manager of Black Women's Resource Centre (Sheffield) and Connexions (Derbyshire). I have served on many Management Boards and until recently was on the Board of Community Action. My job would be much more difficult without the valuable contribution of the staff, volunteers and service users."

Elaine - Services Coordinator

"I have worked as the Services Coordinator at Derby Women's Centre for 3 years. I came from a legal background into the charity world and have developed my role into offering a service which is both caring and professional at all times. It is a privilege to work at Derby Women's Centre and to meet the women who come here.  I communicate with them by listening, assessing their needs and responding appropriately. I can honestly say that it would be hard to find nicer people in any other organisation."

Sally - Marketing & Fundraising Officer

"I came on board as a volunteer and helped to get the revamped website (which you're currently reading!) up and running. I've been at DWC for over a year now and have been heavily involved in marketing the centre to raise awareness of our services so that we can support more women through our work. As part of this, I maintain DWC's presence on Twitter and Facebook (as does Rose) and also help with funding applications. This is my first foray into the voluntary sector and it's very rewarding to see how we help our service users to feel better about themselves."

Rose - Communications Officer

"I started volunteering at Derby Women’s Centre last September. Since then I’ve been promoted to Communications Officer via a stint as the centre’s administrator. I co-ordinate internal and external communications at DWC – including generating press coverage and producing publicity material such as leaflets and e-bulletins. I graduated in 2010, and worked in a library before joining DWC. I really enjoy working here – learning about how small charities are run and meeting all the other staff, volunteers, and women who use the centre. I'll also be planning some fundraising events in the near future so keep your eyes open for news on the website!"

Ann (MInsF Dipmgmt) - Business Development Consultant

"I will be helping with the longer-term sustainability of services at DWC. I have worked in the voluntary and community sector for over 20 years as a manager, trainer and successful bid writer - having secured over £2m of funding for Derby projects. In previous job roles, I have been involved in providing quality services to vulnerable people including women, victims of domestic abuse, older people and those involved in substance misuse and the criminal justice system. I am passionate about the important role that Derby Women's Centre provides in Derby and want to use my experience to help to ensure that it continue to provide these vital services in the future."

Sue - Office Adminstration Assistant

"I joined Derby Women’s Centre as a volunteer in September 2006, having previously worked in adult education as an ESOL tutor. Volunteer office administrative assistants like myself form part of the background support team, which enables the more direct ‘service functions’ to take place. My voluntary work has proved very rewarding."
