Monday 

IT Workshops

When: From Monday 9th January from 1-2.30pm

Interested in developing your IT skills? We're running taster workshops in the New Year to help you gain a basic understanding.

Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy & Reflexology

Complementary therapies are back! In partnership with the University of Derby, we will be offering appointments for Swedish Massge, aromatherapy and reflexology. Donations of £5 are welcomed.

When: Mondays and Fridays from Monday 24th October

How to book an appointment: We're currently fully booked now until the end of February and as it stands, we don't expect any further appointments to be available after this. We do have a waiting list in place in case of cancellations - please call us to be added, especially if you can accept appointments at short notice (we often receive cancellations with just 1-2 hours notice) but please note that we can't guarantee that new slots will come up.

Current status: We are fully booked until the end of February. By then, we should be in a better position to confirm whether there will be more appointments beyond this.

Tuesday 

Creative Arts Activities

When: From 10th January from 10-12am

Shiatsu Therapy

When: Every Tuesday from June 14th until the end of February

We will be offering Shiatsu treatments at the Centre from mid-June onwards. Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on healing treatment which encourages the body's healing abilities and enhances self-awareness by helping you to feel emotionally and physically 'balanced'. It is a deeply relaxing experience and can help with a wide range of conditions including back pain, headaches, stress, anxiety, menstrual problems, digestive disorders and joint pain. 

Appointments last for around 45 minutes and there will be a short consultation prior to the first treatment to assess your needs. We advise that you wear loose clothing when attending appointments. A £5 donation is requested to cover running costs.

Wednesday 

Cafe Femme - Themed Coffee Mornings

When: Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 10am-12pm

Our themed coffee mornings are an ideal opportunity to meet new women in Derby and many of our service users have made new friends and become more confident after coming to coffee mornings at Derby Women's Centre. Each coffee morning has a different theme, and past themes have been centred around makeovers and taster sessions for our complementary therapies. Come along and meet new people in a relaxed environment!

Next coffee morning: Our next coffee morning will be held on February 22nd and will be themed around Exploring the World of Ancient Egypt.

How to get involved: There's no need to book and you're welcome to drop-in on the day. For more information about our coffee mornings, please contact Elaine on 01332 341633. 

 

British Red Cross Therapeutic Care Treatments

When: Every other Wednesday from 10am-12pm

Pamper yourself with a short massage or manicure performed by a Red Cross Therapeutic Crafts Care Practitioner. We ask for a £5 donation to cover running costs. 

How to book: Please call us on 01332 341633 to arrange an appointment. When booking an appointment, please advise whether you would like a massage or a manicure as we are not able to offer both in the same session. 

 

Crafts Activities

When: Starting 18th January from 1-3pm

In partnership with Derby Museum and Art Gallery, we will be holding crafts activities with Philippa Larkam on Wednesday afternoons.

Thursday 

Freedom Programme

When: Thursday mornings from 10am-12pm

The Freedom Programme is a domestic violence support group which takes place at Derby Women's Centre. Each programme runs in 12-week cycles and is primarily aimed at women who have been affected by domestic violence. It is also open to women who want to learn more about the realities of domestic violence and operates on a drop-in basis. The aims include: 

  • To help women to gain a better understanding of the beliefs held by abusive men
  • To illustrate the effects of domestic violence on children
  • To improve the confidence and self-esteem of women who have been affected by domestic violence for a better quality of life
  • To introduce domestic violence survivors to the community support that is available to them
  • To provide a supportive setting for women who have been affected by domestic violence

 

Current status:  The current cycle started on 5th January.

Indian Head Massage and Manicure

When: Thursdays from December 1st until further notice (3 appointments available per Thursday)

Stressed? Enjoy a relaxing Indian Head massage or manicure. Indian Head Massage is known for relieving tension and improving wellbeing, and can also improve circulation in the head and neck and encourage better focus. Despite the name, it usually involves the back and neck as well as the head and can be done while fully clothed. We ask for a £5 donation to cover running costs.

Current status: We are almost fully booked until the end of February but there are still a few slots available on a first come first served basis. We do have a waiting list in place in case of cancellations - please call us to be added, especially if you can accept appointments at short notice (we often receive cancellations with just 1-2 hours notice) but please note that we can't guarantee that new slots will come up. 

 

Love Yourself, Heal Yourself

When: Thursday 19th Jan from 1-3pm for 9 weeks

This is one of our workshops aimed at encouraging self-development and improving confidence levels.

Friday

Phoenix Group

When: Thursday afternoons from 1-3pm

The Phoenix Group is a mental health support group to help women in Derby and Derbyshire to tackle issues such as depression and anxiety disorders. It provides an ideal opportunity to talk about your situation and gain support and encouragement from others in the group in a non-judgemental environment. Everything discussed within the group will remain strictly confidential.

The aims of the Phoenix Group are: 

  • To offer a confidential and supportive environment for any woman who is suffering from mental health issues
  • To offer moral support to women who are affected by mental health issues
  • To organise activities to enable group members to build up their confidence and feel more comfortable in social situations
